The George has stood at the heart of Cullingworth for well over a Century. Built in the late 1800's, it has always been a place where locals, travellers, walkers and families gathered, a true village landmark shaped by stories, laughter and generations of community spirit. For many, The George was where you met familiar faces, shared good company and enjoyed honest food with a proper pint.
By the time we took it over two years ago, the building had begun to lose some of the warmth that made it so special. But underneath it all, the character was still there. We saw the potential immediately, and we were determined to bring The George back, not by recreating the past, but by giving it a fresh start for the future.
What followed was a year of careful restoration and modernisation. We reworked the layout, updated the interior and created a bright, contemporary space that still feels connected to its roots. The aim was to keep The George's traditional heart, but pair it with a modern feel, comfortable surroundings and a welcoming atmosphere.
Now, The George is once again a place where people feel at home, a blend of old and new that feels both familiar and fresh.
We're proud to serve home-cooked food made with locally sourced ingredients, alongside a well-kept selection of beers, ales, wines and spirits. Families, regulars, walkers, visitors and four legged friends are all welcome. Whether you're here for a relaxed drink, a meal with friends, Sunday lunch or simply a cosy seat after a long walk, you'll always find a friendly atmosphere waiting.
To us, The George is more than just a pub, its part of Cullingworth's story. We're honoured to help wrote it's next chapter, keeping it's heritage alive while offering something modern, vibrant and welcoming for the whole village.

Paula is the heart behind the bar at The George. Joining us from day one when we opened in October 2024, she brings a real passion for great drinks, friendly service, and making everyone feel welcome.
With a strong background in hospitality and a sharp eye for quality, Paula takes pride in everything from perfectly poured pints to crafting cocktails and keeping our bar stocked with the best local and favourite brands. Whether you’re popping in for a quick drink or settling in for the evening, Paula is always on hand with a smile and a recommendation.
